OPEN CALL FOR A VISUAL ARTIST to work as an artist in residence with young people and youth workers in Tipperary Town’s Youth Centre

Work to take place between late June and August 2023, ideally one day per week for between eight and ten weeks but this is fairly flexible and open for negotiation.

Background

Tipperary Town is one of twelve places nationally that has been awarded a Creative Places Award from The Arts Council for a three year developmental arts programme. The project began in Autumn 2022 and runs until Autumn 2025. Youth Work Ireland Tipperary is managing the project in partnership with a range of organisations within Tipperary Town.

The Creative Places project mission is to:
Support and develop artists and creative practitioners to collaborate with those who live and work in Tipperary Town to explore identity, bring vibrancy to the place and high quality arts opportunities to the people.

The Opportunity
This opportunity is suitable for a socially engaged visual artist with experience of working with young people to develop and deliver a summer programme of creative activities both for and with young people aged 13 18 years and youth workers who are part of Youth Work Ireland Tipperary in Tipperary Town.

Goals of the artist residency are to:

  • encourage active participation in art activities for young people and youth workers
  • allow those involved to explore and express issues of importance to them through creative processes
  • create new art works that can be presented to a wider audience
  • create memorable, joyful, shared experiences for those taking part

Artistic content of the residency should be engaging, exploratory and fun and the process used should combine guidance and support for individuals with space for personal imagination.

The Artist will have the input and support of a wider team including the Creative Places Coordinator, Project Assistant and Youth Work Ireland Tipperary staff. They are expected to consult youth workers and young people prior to work commencing to inform activities and any themes that are explored.

Budget
The total available budget to cover artist time is 3,500. Additional budget for materials and production is available (within reason).

Artists must be registered as self employed and will be required to demonstrate tax compliance. Garda Vetting will be required. We are open to expressions of interest from artists at different stages of their careers and from as diverse a range of backgrounds as possible.
